DELTA-FC 1022 is commonly used defoamers in OEM primer surfacers. Both function during processing steps and application.
DELTA-SC 2772 and DELTA-SC 2777 are recommended for primer surfacers. Both are fluorocarbon- modified polyacrylates which not only give good levelling, but also improve substrate wetting substantially.
The polyurethane-based DELTA-DC 3047 and DELTA-DC 3046 are commonly used dispersion control additives. DELTA-DC 3401 is recommended for certain pigments such as pigments based on DPP chemistry known to interact best with polyacrylate-based dispersion control additives.
DELTA-SC 2772 and DELTA-SC 2777 are recommended for primers and primer surfacers. Both are fluorocarbon- modified polyacrylates which not only give good levelling, but also improve substrate wetting substantially. Moreover, both additives do not influence the inter-coat adhesion of the system.
DELTA-FC 1022 and silicone-based DELTA-FC 1040 are most suitable for topcoat car refinish systems. These defoamers are active during processing and application of the coating system.
The silicone-free DELTA-SC 2772 and DELTA-SC 2777 are commonly used levelling agents in base coats. Their fluorocarbon-modified polyacrylate structure gives the benefits of improved substrate wetting, good levelling and anti-cratering performance.
For the dispersion of pigments in the multi-layer car refinish systems, which are incorporated in the base coat, the polyurethane-based DELTA-DC 3010, DELTA-DC 3047 and the polyacrylate-based DELTA-DC 3401 are recommended.
Water-based multi-topcoats (base coat):
DELTA-SC 2772 (must be neutralized before addition) is recommended for water-based base coats for good levelling and anti-cratering behaviour. Also the short chain polysiloxane-based DELTA-SC 2580 is commonly used.
DELTA-DC 3590 (pH-independent) could be a cost-effective dispersion control additive.
Both DELTA-FC 1020 and DELTA-FC 1022 are recommended. These 2 foam control additives prevent the formation of foam during manufacturing and application of the coating system with no influence on the inter-coat adhesion.
DELTA-SC 2777 and DELTA-SC 2772 are recommended for primers. Both are fluorocarbon- modified polyacrylates and excellent levelling agents with very good substrate wetting performance. Inter-coat adhesion is not affected at all by using these two surface control additives.
DELTA-DC 3010 (Cost-effective high molecular weight dispersion control additive) and DELTA-DC 4066 (Anionic low molecular weight dispersion control additive) are commonly used. DELTA-DC 4066 and DELTA-DC 4071 are very good in preventing settling of pigments and extenders and optimizing the rheology of the final primer.
The type of dispersion control additive to choose strongly depends on its compatibility with the resin used in the formulation. Experience shows that the polyurethane-based DELTA-DC 3010 and DELTA-DC 3047 are the best choices for coil coating systems to stabilize colour pigments. For white systems, DELTA-S 5220 should be used, since it perfectly stabilizes titanium dioxide avoiding any floating or flooding problems. This dispersion control additive exhibits strong viscosity reduction, which leads to a great improvement of the leveling properties. For co-grinding, DELTA-DC 4066 can be used. Sometimes, DELTA-DC 4066 is used as a post-additive. DELTA-DC 4010 M is also recommended to disperse Titanium dioxide.
DELTA-DC 4242 is recommended for color development providing the following advantages:
Shorter dispersion time.
Improved colour strength.
Reproducible color shades.
Enhanced storage stability.
Better leveling performance.
When DELTA-DC 4207 is used, the viscosity increase that often occurs during the storage of PVC-plastisols can be overcome.
DELTA-SC 2239 and DELTA-SC 2236 (they act as foam control additives in addition to their primary role as surface control additives) are ideal for UV curable systems (acrylics). DELTA-FC 1720 is specially suited for unsaturated polyester finishes.
DELTA-SC 2035 is highly compatible and specially recommended for curtain coating applications. It will provide excellent slip and leveling. DELTA-SC 2777 and DELTA-SC 2772 (both silicone-free) will improve substrate wetting and leveling without foam stabilization.
DELTA-DC 4010M and DELTA-DC 4211 are the most suitable dispersion control additives for inorganic pigments and fillers/extenders. DELTA-DC 3011 is a cost-effective dispersant used to disperse all kinds of pigments.
DELTA-DC 3590 (pH-independent) is specifically recommended. It has good water-resistance properties and can be used with all kinds of pigments. DELTA-S 5225 and DELTA-S 5220 (multi-functional additives) can be also a good candidate for viscosity reduction and good color development.
DELTA-SC 2239 will exhibit excellent leveling performance and defoaming at the same time. This is particularly useful when foam is created during application by rollers. DELTA-SC 2239 will also increase slip and mar-resistance and prevent the formation of Benard Cells (anti-floating effect).
DELTA-DC 4044 and DELTA-DC 4054 are commonly used to disperse inorganic pigments and extenders. Both dispersion control additives can be utilized to activate organophilic Bentonites and prepare Bentonite pre-gels. Cost-effective DELTA-DC 4002 is considered as being the multi-purpose dispersion control additive for all kinds of pigments. White bases prepared with DELTA-DC 4002 have better color acceptance and do not demonstrate flooding and/or floating when tinted with universal colorants. Check out also our special additives DELTA-S 5225 and DELTA-S 5220 for this purpose.
DELTA-S 5700 is a special additive that prevents the gelling of air-drying alkyd systems. Delta specialties offer also a complete range of driers for the air drying alkyd systems. Most of the metals and metal combinations are available.
New mix driers MORDRY 380 and MORDRY 390 are excellent choices for those who work with combi driers.
MORDRY 410 is a special drier offered as a substitute for cobalt octoate.
The silicone-free foam control additives DELTA-FC 1522 and DELTA-FC 1501 are very effective in water-based architectural paints and water-reducible alkyds. For high-end emulsions, DELTA-FC 1525 is recommended given its powerful anti-foaming effect.
DELTA-SC 2580 will exhibit good leveling and anti-cratering behavior with no effect on the inter-coat adhesion.
DELTA-SC 2030 will impart slip and leveling properties to the final coating.
DELTA-DC 4001 and DELTA-DC 4071 are commonly used with easily dispersible pigments. When pigments are difficult to disperse, the high molecular weight dispersion control additive DELTA-DC 3590 (pH-independent) is recommended. It has good water-resistance properties and deflocculation power; and can be used with all kinds of pigments.
DELTA-S 5220 (multi-functional additives) and DELTA-DC 4071 can be also good candidates for viscosity reduction and color acceptance. They are often used along with cheap surfactants used to wet and disperse fillers and titanium dioxide. When used in the emulsion formulation, viscosity build-up that occurs over time can be prevented. Color acceptance of the white emulsion can be drastically improved when tinted with colorants.
Production of colorants is essential for tinting of the architectural and decorative paints. Tinting systems require that the pre-dispersed colorants contain the same resin as the base. Ideally these tinting pastes would be compatible with water-based as well as solvent-based bases. With DELTA-S 5225, you can from now onward formulate your 16 colorants without resin. DELTA-DC 3590 (pH-independent) is specifically recommended for water-based floor coatings especially when Organic or carbon black pigments are used. The high molecular weight structure of this dispersion control additive allows it to give excellent de-flocculation performance with all types of pigments. DELTA-DC 4001 can be used to stabilize inorganic pigments and fillers in mat systems. The product will provide anti-settling properties. DELTA-S 5220 can be used to achieve viscosity reduction when a large amount of inorganic pigments and fillers is used. Thanks to the chemistry of DELTA-S 5220, drastic reduction of the viscosity will be observed in the final formulation.
DELTA-SC 2777 and DELTA-SC 2772 (fluorocarbon-modified polyacrylates) are recommended as silicone-free surface control additives. The alkyl-modified polysiloxane DELTA-SC 2236 is also a suitable leveling agent, which does not promote foam formation.
For difficult-to-wet pigments and extenders, the high molecular weight dispersion control additives DELTA-DC 3011 and DELTA-DC 3010 are recommended. Both additives give low viscosity in the mill-base and reduce the tendency for flooding and floating (co-grinding).
All solvent-based packaging inks (flexo, roto and gravure):
Both DELTA-FC 1020 (silicone-free) and DELTA-FC 1040 are recommended. These 2 foam control additives prevent the formation of foam during manufacturing and application of the packaging ink with no influence on the inter-coat adhesion.
To improve substrate wetting, the surface tension of the ink must be reduced. Such reduction can be achieved by the silicone-based surface control additives DELTA-SC 2033, DELTA-SC 2031 or DELTA-SC 2231. These 3 additives will also impart excellent slip and smoothness to the final ink surface.
Both DELTA-FC 1525 and DELTA-FC 1521 are good foam control additives to use. The first is silicone-based while the second is mineral oil-based.
DELTA-SC 2772 (must be neutralized before addition) is recommended for substrate wetting and levelling. The short chain polysiloxane-based DELTA-SC 2580 is commonly used in water-based inks given its anti-cratering properties and levelling properties. It is also recommended in the preparation of the let-downs.
Both DELTA-SC 2034 and DELTA-SC 2030 are recommended when surface slip is required. DELTA-SC 2034 will exhibit the best slip performance. DELTA-DC 3590 (pH-independent) is a new generation additive used to manufacture resin-free or resin-containing pigment concentrates with a pigment level of minimum 30% (depending on pigment type). The pigments are extremely well dispersed and stabilized providing concentrates than can be easily incorporated into various binders without any difficulty.
All these 3 dispersion control additives improve the dispersing/grinding process of fillers and extenders.
Through a better wetting and a more homogeneous distribution of the fillers, a strong viscosity reduction is obtained. This results in an improvement of the physical properties like the impact resistance, especially in systems filled with Al(OH)3.
DELTA-FC 1020, DELTA-FC 1720 and DELTA-FC 1723 are widely used as air-release agents in unsaturated polyester systems. Their rapid defoaming performance makes them most suitable for applications with high layer thickness.
DELTA-SC 2033 is a compatible silicone-based surface control additive, which lowers the surface tension and improves flow and leveling. Given the fact that it may stabilize foam in the gelcoats, only low addition levels are recommended.
DELTA-DC 3047 is the most suitable dispersion control additive for gelcoats exhibiting excellent deflocculation and stability performance. It can also be used to make pigment concentrates based on UPE.
DELTA-DC 4211 is also a good alternative if no organic pigments are involved in the final formulation.
